Classics in the Community

Summer Classics Camps

The department runs summer programs for young people interested in Classics on a regular basis.  The specific programs change year-to-year depending on staffing ability and public interest. So if you're interested, please contact us!

Humanities Seminar Program

Professors of Classics regularly offer exciting courses in areas of their expertise for adult learners through the Humanities Seminar Program.  Follow the link to see past/current and future offerings!

    On-Campus Programs

The public is also invited to join us on-campus for public events like the Homerathon, the Lectio Vergiliana, and Stagings of Ancient Drama.  See our On-Campus Programs for more details!

    Latin Infusion Programs

Department faculty and graduate students sometimes organize outreach programs to bring Latin infusion to local elementary or middle schools.   During academic year 2009-10 Dr. Cynthia White and our Latin GATs worked closely with at risk middle school students and their teacher Jaimie Gunderson, a UA Classics alum at Pima Partnership Academy that was profiled on PBS's Arizona Illustrated! In AY 2010-11, Dr. David Christenson and the Latin GATs launched a very successful infusion program for fifth-graders at Henry Elementary School in Tucson.

If you are a local teacher and would like us to start an outreach program at your school, please feel free to contact the Director of the Basic Latin Program
